Antonio Conte warned Alvaro Morata could cost Chelsea FC a top-four place
Matt Le Tissier is tipping Chelsea FC to miss out on a top four finish in the Premier League this season
Matt Le Tissier is backing Chelsea FC to miss out on a top-four finish given Alvaro Morata’s poor form.
The Spanish striker has failed to score in their last five games in all competitions to leave Morata with a lack of confidence and form.
Chelsea have succumbed to goalless stalemates in three of their last four games to see the west London side drop down to fourth spot.
The west London side signed Ross Barkley in a £15m deal from Everton in the summer to give the Blues some more attacking verve.
The defending champions are 15 points behind current Premier League leaders Manchester City with a title defence looking unlikely.
Chelsea are three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a place in the Champions League up for grabs.
Former Southampton legend Le Tissier believes Chelsea will miss out to Spurs in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
“I’m edging toward Chelsea missing out on the top four right now with Alvaro Morata not firing, Eden Hazard going off the boil a bit and the manager’s position feeling a bit unsettled right now,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“Five draws in the last seven in all competitions, including four 0-0s, is a concern and has clearly focused their minds on that area of the pitch, turning their attention to Alexis Sanchez.”
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte.
The Blues booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round thanks to a 1-0 win over Norwich City in the replay at Stamford Bridge.
