Antonio Conte replies when asked if Chelsea FC are signing 31-year-old striker
Antonio Conte discusses Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy but says that he is not a transfer target for Chelsea FC
Antonio Conte has admitted that he is a huge admirer of Jamie Vardy amid reports that Chelsea could be interested in signing the Leicester City striker – but said he is not a target for the Blues.
The Leicester City forward is widely considered to be one of the finest attacking talents in the Premier League and earned plenty of praise as he helped the Foxes win the title back in 2016.
Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this month as Conte looks to strengthen his squad in the mid-season transfer window.
Vardy has been in good form for Leicester so far this season, scoring nine goals and making one assist in 21 Premier League games ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
However, although Conte admits he is a huge admirer of the England international, he says that Chelsea are not considering a move to sign him.
Asked if Chelsea are considering a bid for Vardy, Conte told his news conference at Cobham on Friday: “No, honestly we didn’t speak about him, but I repeat we are talking about a really good player.”
He continued: “For sure Vardy is a really good player and I don’t like to speak about players of other teams, but in this case we are not talking about transfer market.
“I appreciate a lot this player because he is a really good player, Vardy.
“He played for the national team and is scoring with regularity in this league and is a good player, but this different — I am talking about him because you ask me and not the transfer market.”
Chelsea now switch their attentions back to FA Cup affairs and the replay of their third-round clash against Norwich City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
