The Blues completed a deal to land the England midfielder earlier in the month as their first signing of the January transfer window.
Barkley will be hoping to establish himself as a regular fixture in the first team at Stamford Bridge between now and the end of the season as he bids to break into the England squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Chelsea signed Barkley after the midfielder missed the whole first half of the season due to a hamstring injury.
However, Reo-Coker is convinced that the decision to bring the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge will end up being a good one for the west London side.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning, Reo-Coker said: “I think he is worth the risk. I think he’s a tremendous talent.
“He’s an attacking midfielder, very creative and the type of player Chelsea need right now. I think the need a bit more creativity in their squad and in the team.
“And he’s someone that will be a great addition from them.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday lunchtime as they look to try and get back to winning ways in the Premier League after their goalless draw with Leicester last weekend.
The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table as they look to try and get closer to Manchester City.
