Chris Sutton believes that Eden Hazard has had to step his game up at Chelsea FC this season because the Blues are more reliant on the Belgian playmaker.

The 27-year-old has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for the west London side this term as he looks to have rediscovered his best form in the Chelsea FC shirt.

Hazard was once again in fine form as he notched up an assist and was very influential in Chelsea FC’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round on Sunday afternoon.

And Sutton believes that Hazard has had no choice but to step his game up this season because of the lack of other consistent attacking talent in the Chelsea FC team.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of Sunday’s game, Sutton said: “There’s been more of a reliance on Hazard to make things happen, especially this season.

“Alvaro Morata had such a good start, I think a lot of people forget that, but he’s lost his way a little bit.

“For Batshuayi it just hasn’t happened, so it’s Hazard who’s really had to step up.”

Two goals from Michy Batshuayi and one from Marcos Alonso helped the Blues beat the Magpies and book their place in the fifth round.

The west London side now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Bournemouth in front of their home fans on Wednesday night.

The Blues are currently in third place in the Premier League table.
