Emerson Palmieri explains why he chose Chelsea FC after signing for the Blues from Roma on Tuesday night
Emerson Palmieri admitted that he has fulfilled one of his dreams by signing for Chelsea FC after his move from Roma was confirmed on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian defender was confirmed as the Blues’ second signing of the January transfer window late on Tuesday night after days of speculation linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Emerson has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the west London side and he will wear the number 33 third for Antonio Conte’s men.
The left-sided defender will be hoping to earn a spot in the first team in the coming weeks as he looks to win over his new manager.
And the 23-year-old, who was born on Sao Paolo, has revealed his delight at finally completing his move to Stamford Bridge following the relentless speculation about his future.
Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website after the deal went through, defender Palmieri said: “I came here because it’s a great team with a great history.
“Today I am realising one of my dreams to pull on the shirt of such a great club.
“English football is something I have been watching since I was 15 years old. It is a really beautiful game over here but it is going to be even more beautiful to play it.”
Chelsea FC, who are in third place in the table, are now preparing for their home Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues may be able to get any more transfers over the line before the deadline at 11pm tonight.
