Gary Neville reacts to ‘random’ Chelsea FC transfer rumour
Gary Neville reacts to reports that Chelsea FC are interested in signing Peter Crouch from Stoke this month
Gary Neville has described the reports linking Chelsea FC with a move to sign Peter Crouch this month as “random”.
The Blues are believed to be on the lookout for a new striker this month as Antonio Conte takes the opportunity to bolster his attacking options at Stamford Bridge ahead of the second half of the season.
Stoke City striker Crouch has been touted as a surprise target for the west London side as Conte aims to strengthen his front-line this month.
It seems that a move will not happen, however, and former Manchester United defender Neville has admitted his surprise at the reports linking the Blues with a move for Crouch, who turns 37 later this month.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday, Neville said: “It [the Crouch link] just seems a little random.
“Everybody on social media, in particular, feels it’s a little bit random.”
Chelsea, who won the title in style under Conte last term, returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday with an impressive 4-0 victory over Brighton on the south coast.
Conte is now preparing his side for the crunch second leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The two sides played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge in the first leg earlier this month.
