The England international signed for the Blues at the turn of the year as he became the west London club’s first recruit of the January transfer window.
Barkley has been training with his new team-mates at Cobham in recent weeks as he gets used to life at Stamford Bridge following a lengthy lay-off with a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old came on to make his debut in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-finals last week.
And Chelsea FC defender Alonso says that he is expecting to see big things from Barkley in the coming weeks and months.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Alonso said of Barkley: “I think he’s going to be a great player for us.
“He had a great game after a difficult start. I’m happy for him and for sure he will be important for us.”
Chelsea FC are now preparing for their home Premier League clash against Bournemouth in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The west London side head into the game looking to keep up with the two Manchester clubs at the top of the Premier League table.
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title in style in Antonio Conte’s first campaign last term.
