Antonio Conte has hinted that Ross Barkley could start for Chelsea FC in their FA Cup fourth-round clash against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The new Chelsea FC signing made his debut for the west London side when he came off the bench during the Blues’ 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-finals last week.

Barkley has been getting used to life at Stamford Bridge following his transfer to the west London club from Everton earlier this month.

However, the England international is now working on getting back to full fitness after he missed the first half of the campaign due to a serious hamstring injury.

With Alvaro Morata and Willian currently struggling with injuries, Conte has dropped a big hint that Barkley could be in line to start for the west London side against the Magpies on Sunday.

Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Conte said: “After a bad injury, you need a bit of time to be 100 per cent fit.

“If we want to accelerate this process, he has to play, not only have training sessions, especially at this moment after the Willian and Morata injuries. We don’t have other options.”

Chelsea FC head into the game looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their League Cup semi-final loss to Arsenal.

Conte will be aiming to steer Chelsea FC back to the FA Cup final this season after they reached the showpiece last term but lost to Arsenal back in May at Wembley.
