Sky Sports reporter claims Arsenal want Chelsea FC to pay £30m for proven striker
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol doubts Chelsea FC will match Arsenal's £30m asking price for Olivier Giroud
Arsenal have quoted Chelsea FC around £30m for proven striker Olivier Giroud, reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed.
The defending Premier League champions are becoming increasingly desperate in their attempts to sign a proven striker in the January transfer window.
Chelsea FC were thought to be in the market to sign AS Roma forward Edin Dzeko but the west London side have been unable to agree personal terms with the former Manchester City striker.
The Blues have also been linked with a potential move to sign West Ham target man Andy Carroll and Stoke City veteran Peter Crouch.
However, the title holders are now rumoured to be in the market to sign France international Giroud from their bitter London rivals Arsenal.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol shed light on Chelsea FC’s pursuit of the 31-year-old striker with the January transfer window set to close on Wednesday night.
“Aubameyang’s arrival [at Arsenal] is linked to the future of Olivier Giroud,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning.
“Dortmund want him included in the deal but he has other offers – offers which he thinks are more attractive. The most interesting one is from Chelsea – Giroud would prefer to stay in London.
“The big question now is: can Arsenal and Chelsea agree a transfer fee? Arsenal value Giroud at up to £30m and there is no way Chelsea are going to pay that much for a striker who’ll be 32 in September.”
Giroud has only started one Premier League game in the current campaign but the Arsenal striker has made a further 14 appearances from the bench.
Chelsea FC signed England international Ross Barkley in a cut price £15m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the January transfer window.
The Blues are in third place in the Premier League table.
