Alan Shearer: What I really think about Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea
Alan Shearer discusses Michy Batshuayi's form for Chelsea this season
Michy Batshuayi is suffering from a severe lack of confidence at Chelsea this season, according to Alan Shearer.
The Belgian striker has struggled to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge since his transfer to the club from Marseille back in the summer of 2016.
Batshuayi has only started two Premier League games for Chelsea so far this season and it would seem that he does not have the full trust of Antonio Conte.
The striker did score Chelsea’s goal in their 1-1 draw with Norwich City in the FA Cup third round at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night before the Blues progressed on penalties.
However, former England star Shearer has been less than impressed by what he has seen from Batshuayi in a Chelsea shirt so far this term.
Speaking to BBC Sport on Wednesday night, Shearer said: “Confidence is a huge thing in football as we know, and this guy hasn’t got any whatsoever.
“I know he’s not playing enough games and as a striker it’s an absolute nightmare.
“But when you get your opportunity like he is tonight [against Norwich], he’s got to do more.
“There seems to be a lack of urgency about him, he’s got to be stronger. He’s the guy up front that his team are looking to build off.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday lunchtime.
Batshuayi could be in line to start that game because both Alvaro Morata and Pedro Rodriguez were sent off for second bookable offences against Norwich and will therefore miss the Premier League clash due to suspension.
Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table.
