The defending Premier League champions produced a disappointing performance in a goalless draw with Arsenal in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are winless in their last three games in all competitions following a goalless draw with Championship side Norwich City in the FA Cup third round at Carrow Road last weekend.
The west London side’s last Premier League game saw Antonio Conte’s men squander a lead to draw 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium following Hector Bellerin’s late equaliser.
Chelsea are in third place in the table and on the coattails of Manchester United in pursuit of a second-place finish to mark what would be a decent season under the Italian coach.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing the title holders to ease to an unconvincing win against the Foxes at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
“Before I watched the Carabao Cup semi-final with Arsenal I would have said Chelsea would win this 3-0, but I’m not so sure now,” Merson told Sky Sports. “They struggled in what was a poor game.
“Having said that, I think Chelsea will have too much for a Leicester side whose form has been up and down. They lost to Watford, who have won once in a blue moon, and with Chelsea needing a win to consolidate their position in the top four, I fear for the Foxes.”
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and then Conte.
The Blues will take on La Liga side Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 next month.
