Gary Cahill admits he’s very excited by new Chelsea signing
Gary Cahill expresses his delight at Chelsea's signing of Ross Barkley from Everton last week
Gary Cahill has revealed his excitement at Chelsea’s signing of Ross Barkley as their first move of the January transfer window.
The Blues confirmed the capture of the 24-year-old England midfielder on Friday after having been heavily linked with a move to sign him in the summer.
Barkley has signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Chelsea and will be hoping to prove himself as worthy of a regular starting spot in the first team in the coming weeks and months.
Cahill knows Barkley well from the pair’s time together with the England national team.
And the Chelsea defender is convinced that Barkley will be able to prove himself as a top player for the west London side in the coming seasons.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Cahill said: “I think it’s a great signing
“If you look at the market in this day and age, it’s a snip for a player like him. I’ve played with him and trained with him, so I know what he is capable of and so does everybody else.
“He’s capable of whatever he wants. If you’re looking at attributes, has he got two good feet, is he strong, is he quick, can he finish, is he comfortable on the ball?
“He ticks all the boxes and now he’s just ready for a platform to go and express himself.
“This club will give him that, like it did me and like it did for other players, and it’s down to him to go and take it. It’s a very exciting signing and for the money that’s been paid, it has to be a bargain.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently preparing for the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The Blues head into the game on the back of their disappointing goalless draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Chelsea and Arsenal played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Premier League at The Emirates last week.
