Gary Neville makes admission about Alvaro Morata after Chelsea’s draw at Arsenal
Gary Neville discusses Alvaro Morata's display in Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday
Gary Neville singled out Alvaro Morata as the main reason why Chelsea didn’t beat Arsenal after Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at The Emirates.
The Spanish striker was guilty of missing a number of clear-cut opportunities for the Blues as Chelsea had to settle for a point despite leading in stoppage time.
Goals from Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso had put Chelsea 2-1 up after Jack Wilshere’s opener at The Emirates, but Arsenal had the final say when Hector Bellerin drilled home a good finish to earn a point for the home side.
Morata had chances in both halves when he found himself one on one against Petr Cech but failed to find the net.
And former Manchester United defender Neville believes that Morata’s missed chances will be the main headline for the Blues after the game.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, Neville said: “The story for Chelsea will be Morata. He had three big chances. He had two one-one-ones with the goalkeeper.”
He added: “Chelsea are an efficient team. A solid team. Not as solid as I thought. Arsenal’s attack pulled them apart. Especially Mesut Ozil.”
Morata will be hoping to get back to scoring ways when Chelsea kick off their FA Cup campaign with a third-round clash against Norwich City on Saturday.
The result on Wednesday night left them in third place in the Premier League table and behind both of the Manchester clubs as Antonio Conte looks to try and steer his side up the table following their title triumph last season.
