Conte urged to address Chelsea problem in January or risk missing out on top four
Charlie Nicholas urges Chelsea to sign a goal-scorer or else risk missing out on a top-four spot
Chelsea need to address the lack of goals in their team to stop Tottenham Hotspur securing fourth spot in the Premier League table, according to Charlie Nicholas.
The defending Premier League champions are in fourth place in the table but level on points with Liverpool FC after last weekend’s goalless draw with 10-man Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have drawn their last four games in all competitions and the west London side have failed to score in their last three outings following successive stalemates with Norwich City, Arsenal and Leicester City.
Summer signing Alvaro Morata has struggled in front of goal in recent weeks and the £58m addition produced a wasteful performance in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League earlier this month.
Chelsea have been linked with a potential move to sign West Ham striker Andy Carroll despite the England international’s poor fitness record.
Former Arsenal star Nicholas believes Chelsea need to add more goals to their team or else Tottenham will secure top-four spot ahead of the defending champions.
“But for the West Ham draw, Tottenham are scoring plenty of goals again while Chelsea’s have dried up, so you’d imagine Antonio Conte would be focusing on addressing that in January,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.
The Blues will take on La Liga giants Barcelona in the Champions League last 16.
