Reporter confirms Chelsea want 23-year-old, reveals Serie A giants want £20m
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims Chelsea want to sign £20m-rated Emerson Palmeri
Chelsea are interested in Emerson Palmeri as an alternative to Alex Sandro but AS Roma want £20m for the full-back, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed.
The defending Premier League champions are in the market to sign a left-back to provide Marcos Alonso with competition for a place in Antonio Conte’s first-team.
The Spanish full-back has scored six times and has made one assist in 23 games in the Premier League this season but the Chelsea boss wants to add more depth to his squad.
The Blues pursued Juventus defender Sandro in the summer but the title holders were unable to reach an agreement with the Serie A champions.
Palmeri is a highly-rated left-back in the Italian top flight but the 23-year-old has only just returned from a serious knee problem.
The Brazilian-born defender made 25 appearances in all competitions in the 2016-17 season but has only featured in one game in the current campaign.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol confirmed that Chelsea want Palmeri as a potential alternative to Sandro.
“Alex Sandro’s £60m price tag means that Chelsea have been looking at other options. They’ve asked about signing Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Thursday morning.
“He’s 23 and is highly rated, but he’s only just come back from a serious knee injury. Palmieri is rated at around £20m.”
Liverpool FC have also been linked with a move to sign the Brazil Under-17 international.
The Reds are in third place and ahead of Chelsea on goal difference in the race to finish in the Champions League spots.
