Ian Wright names three world-class players who would improve Chelsea
The Arsenal legend questions why Chelsea didn't attempt to sign Virgil van Dijk, while urging the Blues to make offers for Bayern duo Arturo Vidal and Roberto Lewandowski
Ian Wright has questioned why Chelsea haven’t given Antonio Conte the funds to sign Arturo Vidal, Virgil van Dijk or Robert Lewandowski.
The Premier League champions were linked with a potential move to sign Van Dijk from Southampton in the lead up to the January transfer window.
However, Liverpool FC completed a club-record £75m deal to sign the Netherlands international last week after making Van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world.
Conte has made no secret of his desire to add more numbers to his squad ahead of their return to Champions League competition next month.
The Blues will take on La Liga leaders Barcelona over two legs in the round of 16 as the west London side look to win the competition for the first time since 2012.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal to further bolster their midfield despite the £15m addition of Ross Barkley last week.
Former Arsenal striker Wright urged Chelsea to target Vidal and his Bayern team-mate Lewandowski to bolster their team ahead of the second half of the season.
“Vidal would have improved them. Van Dijk would have improved them. Maybe someone like Lewandowski,” Wright told The Debate on Sky Sports on Wednesday night.
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.
