Chelsea told they have made the bargain signing of the century
Phil Neville reacts to Chelsea's signing of Ross Barkley from Everton in a reported £15m deal
Phil Neville has taken to social media to claim that Chelsea have made the signing of the century after they landed Ross Barkley in a reported £15m deal from Everton on Friday as their first January signing.
After days of speculation linking Barkley with a move to Stamford Bridge, Barkley finally put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half year contract with the Blues.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window but the move failed to materialise as the midfielder continued to nurse a hamstring injury.
However, the deal finally went through on Friday as Chelsea confirmed their first recruit of the January transfer window.
And Manchester United legend Neville claimed that Chelsea have got a very good deal indeed by claiming him for what is reportedly a very low fee, as Barkley was in the final year of his contract at Everton.
Neville wrote on Twitter: “£15m for Ross Barkley is the snip of the century!!!”
Barkley will wear the number eight shirt at Chelsea, and will hope to make his debut for the west London side in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently preparing for their FA Cup third-round clash against Norwich City on Saturday evening.
The Blues reached the final of the competition last term but were beaten by Arsenal at Wembley back in May.
