Gary Neville questions Chelsea FC transfer targets
Gary Neville admits he is not sure why Chelsea FC seem to be so desperate to sign a striker this month
Gary Neville has admitted that he is not sure why Chelsea FC seem to be so desperately looking to sign a new striker this month.
The Blues have been linked with a host of players in the January transfer window as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad in time for the second half of the season.
Chelsea have already been busy in the January window and have secured the signing of midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton on a long-term contract.
However, the west London side have also been linked with a host of target men, with the likes of Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Fernando Llorente all touted as possible targets.
But former Manchester United defender Neville is not too sure why Conte seems determined to bring in a target man this month.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday, Neville said: “Chelsea seem to be hell-bent on getting anybody that’s over 6ft 3in and a target man.
“There is no doubt that Conte likes a target man. Graziano Pelle was a big favourite of Conte’s when he was in charge of Italy so he does like someone up front who is a presence.
“But, are they really that desperate to have somebody for the last three months of the season?
“I don’t see it personally. I think Chelsea are having a good season.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their crunch League Cup semi-final second leg clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The west London side head into that game on the back of their 4-0 thrashing of Brighton on Saturday, but the two London sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
