Gary Neville reacts to Roberto Firmino’s display in Liverpool FC’s 4-3 win over Man City
The Man United legend reflects on Roberto Firmino's performance in Liverpool FC's 4-3 win over Man City
Gary Neville praised Roberto Firmino for his positive reaction to Philippe Coutinho’s departure after the Brazilian forward scored a stylish goal in Liverpool FC’s 4-3 win over Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds made the breakthrough in the ninth minute of the Premier League clash thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-range strike from outside the penalty area to score his third top-flight goal at Liverpool FC.
Manchester City restored parity before half-time when Leroy Sane managed to beat his German compatriot Loris Karius at his near post.
But Firmino made it 2-1 in the second half when the Brazilian managed to outmuscle Manchester City defender John Stones before he lifted his finish over Ederson to net his 10th Premier League goal of 2017-18.
Liverpool FC eased to a 4-2 win following goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to hoist Jurgen Klopp’s side into third place in the Premier League table.
Firmino suffered the disappointment of Coutinho moving to La Liga giants Barcelona in a £142m deal last week.
But former Manchester United defender Neville was impressed with Firmino’s tenacious performance against the Premier League leaders.
“The goalkeeper I’m not sure was great, but the finish is,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“It’s fantastic from Firmino, the composure. He said earlier on in the week that he was heartbroken that Coutinho had gone. You wondered how it would affect him but it’s not.”
Late goals from Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan created some late tension at Anfield but Liverpool FC held on to secure three points.
Firmino moved to Liverpool FC from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the 2015 summer transfer window.
