Jamie Carragher took to social media to reveal his disappointment at Philippe Coutinho’s exit from Liverpool FC to join Barcelona.

The Reds confirmed in a statement on Saturday evening that they had reached an agreement to sell the 25-year-old Brazilian playmaker to the Spanish club for a fee reported to be worth £142m.

Coutinho’s future had been a relentless source of speculation in recent months, with the playmaker having also been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou in the summer months,

The playmaker is now poised to complete his dream move to Barcelona and link up with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Camp Nou.

Former Liverpool FC defender played alongside Coutinho at Anfield before hanging up his boots and the ex-centre-half has revealed his disappointment at the news.

Carragher wrote on Twitter on Saturday night after the move was confirmed by both clubs: “Disappointed Coutinho has gone, never thought he’d turn into the player he’s become when I first played with him, but he’s been a great @LFC player these last few years.

“142 million though! Just need to use the money better than we did when Suarez left!”

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are now preparing for the small matter of their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday as they look to try and get closer to Pep Guardiola’s leaders.

The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they seek Champions League qualification for the second season running.
