Jamie Carragher: This Liverpool FC forward is one of league’s most underrated players
The Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher claims Roberto Firmino is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League
Jamie Carragher has described Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino as one of the Premier League’s most underrated players.
The Brazil international continued his excellent form with a delicate chip over Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in Liverpool FC’s 4-3 win against the Premier League leaders at Anfield on Sunday.
Firmino has scored 10 times and made five assists in 23 appearances in the Premier League this season to produce his best return in the English top flight since his move to Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015.
The South American netted six goals in six games in the Champions League group stage to take his tally to 16 in all competitions this season to continue to thrive in centre-forward role.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher doesn’t believe Firmino gets the credit he deserves due to his versatility following his impressive performance against the Premier League leaders.
“I think we’re talking about one of the most under-rated players in the Premier League in Firmino,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He’s very highly rated here by the manager but I think outside of Liverpool, people don’t mention him when they talk about top strikers because they don’t see him as a out-and-out goal-scorer like Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku. This season he’s got 15-16 goals.”
Liverpool signed Firmino in a £30m deal from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the 2015 summer transfer window when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table but ahead of Chelsea on goal difference following a return of 47 points from 23 games.
The Merseyside outfit haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
