Jurgen Klopp reassured Liverpool FC signing will make ‘massive difference’
The Chelsea legend is backing Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk will prove a great signing for the Reds
Pat Nevin believes Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk will make a “massive difference” at Anfield and would make the team of any of their top-four rivals.
The Reds spent a club-record £75m fee on the Southampton centre-half earlier in the January transfer window to make the 26-year-old the most expensive defender in the world.
Van Dijk scored on his Liverpool FC debut after the Dutch star netted a late winner in a 2-1 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round this month.
Liverpool FC suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to 20th-placed Swansea City on Monday night to damage their top-four hopes.
Van Dijk was partly responsible for Alfie Mawson’s winner after his poor clearance landed at the feet of the Swansea defender.
But former Chelsea winger Nevin is confident that Van Dijk will transform the Liverpool FC team following his move to the 18-time English champions.
“He was dominant on the ball [against Everton]. He is the perfect acquisition for Liverpool,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“He would have been the perfect acquisition for Chelsea, Man City and Man United as well. He is that good a player.
“He will make a massive difference to them. He has that presence and football knowledge. We will finally get the best out of a brilliant player.
“It’s a great piece of business for Liverpool.”
Liverpool FC will take on Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night in search of a swift return to winning ways.
The Reds have conceded 29 times in 24 games in the Premier League this season to raise questions about Klopp’s defence.
The Merseyside outfit are in fourth place in the table and two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur.
