The Liverpool FC attacker poses with his African player of the year award
Mohamed Salah took to Twitter to show off his African player of the year award on Friday night just hours ahead of Liverpool FC’s FA Cup clash against Everton.
The Egypt international won the award ahead of his Liverpool FC team-mate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Salah has enjoyed a sensational start to his Liverpool FC career after scoring 17 times in 21 games in the Premier League this season.
The 24-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Serie A giants AS Roma in a £39m deal in the summer, has also netted five times in six Champions League group-stage games.
Salah scored last-minute winner from the penalty spot to seal Egypt’s place in next summer’s World Cup as his national team reached the major tournament for the first time since 1990.
While the attacker was ruled out of the Merseyside derby in the FA Cup third round as he collected his award in Ghana’s capital Accra, Salah was still all smiles with his prize on a flight back to England.
Salah wrote on Twitter: “One of many dreams came true last night… Thank you everyone!”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title since the division was created in 1992 but the Reds finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
