Gary Neville makes prediction about Philippe Coutinho’s Liverpool FC future
Gary Neville discusses the speculation linking Philippe Coutinho with a transfer from Liverpool FC to Barcelona
Gary Neville believes that the best option for Liverpool FC would be to agree a deal with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho to join them in the summer.
The Brazilian playmaker’s future is set to be a relentless source of speculation this month as he continues to be linked with a move to Camp Nou.
The 25-year-old was thought to be the subject of multiple bids by Barcelona last summer but Liverpool FC held firm and refused to sell their talismanic playmaker.
Coutinho is sure to be linked with Barcelona again this month and it remains to be seen what stance Liverpool FC will take this time around.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville believes that it is in Liverpool FC’s interests to keep hold of Coutinho until the summer because he can help them to challenge for trophies and finish in the top four.
Speaking on his podcast on Sky Sports, Neville said: “Absolutely [Liverpool FC should keep him until the summer].
“Liverpool have held onto Coutinho. The question isn’t whether Barcelona can get him now or need him now, it’s whether Liverpool will take the risk.
“The risk is does Coutinho get injured and then the £140m is gone? They may have factored that in when signing Van Dijk.”
Coutinho is expected to miss Liverpool FC’s clash with Everton in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night as he continues to nurse a thigh injury.
Liverpool FC are currently fourth in the table as they bid to try and finish in the top four once again this term.
