The Netherlands defender became the Reds’ first signing of the January transfer window at the start of the month after Liverpool FC reportedly agreed to pay a fee of as much as £75m to the Saints.
Van Dijk marked his Liverpool FC debut with a goal in the 2-1 victory over Everton in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this month as Jurgen Klopp immediately slotted the centre-half into his team.
The defender will now be hoping to hold down a regular place in the first team at Anfield as he looks to help Liverpool FC enjoy a successful second full season under Klopp.
Van Dijk was linked with some other Premier League clubs before he completed his transfer to Anfield at the start of the month.
And the centre-half has now lifted the lid on some of the reasons why he picked Liverpool FC ahead of some of their Premier League rivals.
Asked why he picked Liverpool FC, Van Dijk replied in an interview with Sky Sports: “I think the size of the club, the fans, the players, the manager, the whole package here is amazing.
“You can see yourself that the atmosphere at every home game is amazing. I’m just very happy to play for the club.”
Van Dijk will be hoping to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Anfield.
