Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool FC should hijack £35m Alexis Sanchez deal
Kevin Kilbane tells Liverpool FC to hijack Manchester City's pursuit of Alexis Sanchez
Kevin Kilbane has urged Liverpool FC to hijack Manchester City’s bid to sign Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez.
The Reds sanctioned the sale of Philippe Coutinho to La Liga leaders Barcelona in a deal thought to be worth around £142m at the weekend.
Coutinho’s departure leaves Liverpool FC lacking some creativity up front following his return of 12 goals and eight assists in 18 starts in the 2017-18 season.
Arsenal have been fending off interest from Premier League leaders Manchester City in the number seven Sanchez over the past 12 month.
The Chile international has less than six months remaining on his current Arsenal contract to throw up the possibility of Sanchez leaving the Gunners for nothing at the end of the season.
Alternatively, Arsenal could cash in on Sanchez in the January transfer window to recoup some of their £35m outlay on the South American in 2014.
Former Everton defender Kilbane believes Sanchez would be the ideal replacement for Coutinho at Liverpool FC if the Reds can manage to convince another player to snub Manchester City.
“I’d try and hijack the deal for Alexis Sanchez. For £35m, they should go and get him,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk on Monday night.
“Van Dijk was wanted by Man City and Chelsea but he went to Liverpool. If anyone can do it, Klopp can do it.
“Whether or not Klopp has the time to do it… It could be too late.”
Liverpool FC managed to sign Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal in the January transfer window despite reported interest from Premier League leaders Manchester City.
