Jurgen Klopp identifies top Liverpool FC target to replace Philippe Coutinho – report
The Liverpool FC boss wants to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka to replace Philippe Coutinho, according to reports
Jurgen Klopp has earmarked Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka to replace Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool FC, according to reports.
French media outlet SFR Sport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Reds are keeping tabs on the German midfielder ahead of the summer when Goretzka will be available on a free transfer.
The same article states that Liverpool FC are facing competition from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for the 23-year-old’s signature and the German side were thought to be favourites to sign the attacker.
According to the same story, the Merseyside outfit are working hard to convince Goretzka to turn down Bayern Munich in favour of a switch to Liverpool FC at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The Reds have a void to fill in Klopp’s midfield following Coutinho’s £142m move to Barcelona at the weekend after months of speculation linking the South American with Camp Nou.
Goretzka has netted four times in 11 games in the German top flight this season, although the German star is a more defensive-minded player rather than Coutinho.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds will take on Portuguese giants Porto in the Champions League last 16.
