Jurgen Klopp can spend £140m on new Liverpool FC signings, claims ex-defender
Kevin Kilbane believes Liverpool FC have £140m on new transfer in the January transfer window
Jurgen Klopp has £140m to spend on new Liverpool FC signing in the January transfer window, according to Kevin Kilbane.
The Reds signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a club record £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton earlier this month.
Liverpool FC didn’t flinch at making the Netherlands international the most expensive defender in the world.
The 18-time English champions sold Brazil international Philippe Coutinho in a £142m deal to La Liga giants Barcelona at the weekend.
Some reporters have suggested that Liverpool FC signed Van Dijk in a lavish deal in the knowledge that the Reds would recoup their outlay with the sale of Coutinho.
However, former Everton defender Kilbane has claimed that Liverpool FC boss Klopp has the entire Coutinho transfer fee to splurge on new signings.
“This isn’t Liverpool using Coutinho to finance the Van Dijk deal,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk on Monday night. “They have £140m to spend.”
Liverpool FC will add Naby Keita to their Reds squad next summer after the Merseyside outfit agreed a £48m deal from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in 2017.
The Reds will take on Portuguese giants FC Porto in the Champions League last 16 next month as Klopp looks to lead Liverpool FC to their first triumph in the competition since 2005.
Klopp hasn’t won any silverware since taking over the reins of the club from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
