Chris Sutton names Liverpool FC signing required to take Reds to ‘next level’
Jurgen Klopp needs to sign a top striker if Liverpool FC are to go to the next level, according to Chris Sutton
Jurgen Klopp needs to sign a top striker to take Liverpool FC to the next level, Chris Sutton has claimed.
The Reds have some transfer funds to splurge following the sale of Philippe Coutinho in a £142m deal to Barcelona.
Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool No11 Roberto Firmino has scored 15 goals and has made eight assists in 28 games in all competitions this term.
Klopp has used Firmino in a false number nine role to great effect since taking over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in 2015.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton believes the Reds need to sign a world-class striker to take Klopp’s men to another level.
“Liverpool need a goalkeeper and a striker,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Firmino has done a good job but Liverpool need to go for a recognised striker to take them to the next level.”
The Reds signed Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton earlier in the January transfer window.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Merseyside outfit signed four players in the summer transfer window before adding Virgil van Dijk to their squad in a £75m deal.
