Alan Shearer names two Liverpool FC signings Jurgen Klopp needs in January
The Newcastle legend believes Liverpool FC need to sign a goalkeeper and another centre-half in the January transfer window
Liverpool need to sign a goalkeeper and a centre-half in the January transfer window, Alan Shearer has claimed.
The Reds made Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world last week when Liverpool FC agreed a £75m deal from Southampton.
Van Dijk will go someway towards improving a much maligned Liverpool defence, although Klopp has more defensive issues to fix.
Indeed, Simon Mignolet has struggled to convince over the past four seasons since moving to Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013.
The Reds are lightweight on the centre-half department with Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip all struggling with issues.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer believes Liverpool need more than just Van Dijk in January to significantly improve their squad.
“He is an answer – not the answer,” Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They still need a goalkeeper and perhaps another centre-half.”
Liverpool FC need to sign AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke.
The Reds will also signed Naby Keita in a £48m deal from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.
Liverpool FC will welcome Premier League leaders Manchester City to Anfield in their next Premier League game on Sunday as Klopp’s side look to become the first team to beat the Citizens in the English top flight this term.
