Philippe Coutinho has reiterated his love for Liverpool FC but has admitted that his move to Barcelona was motivated by a desire to become a better player.

The Brazil international completed a £142m move to the La Liga giants over the weekend to finally end speculation surrounding his long-term future at the Anfield outfit.

Liverpool FC sanctioned the sale of Coutinho despite refusing to countenance the number 10’s exit in the summer transfer window following a number of bids from Barcelona.

To his credit, Coutinho showed his commitment to Liverpool FC’s cause in the first half of the 2017-18 season despite handing in a transfer request at the Merseyside outfit back in August.

The 25-year-old scored 12 goals and made eight assists in 18 games in all competitions to produce some brilliant performances in the Champions League and the Premier League in the current campaign.

Coutinho underlined his continued affection for the 18-time English champions but looked ahead with excitement to the chance to become an even better player at the La Liga giants in the coming seasons.

“I gave 100 per cent, 100 per cent of the time I played for Liverpool,” Coutinho told the Daily Mail.

“Five years, I did everything I could possibly do. I love this club, but it is time for a new adventure. I have so many memories and have so many people to thank at Liverpool. I have to improve as a player. In my head, I always think this.”

Liverpool FC will welcome runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City in their next top-flight fixture at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
