Jurgen Klopp told to make ‘cheeky’ Liverpool FC offer for 26-year-old Premier League star
Robbie Savage tells the Liverpool FC boss to make an audacious bid to sign Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez
Robbie Savage has encouraged Liverpool FC to make a “cheeky offer” to sign Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez.
The Algeria international has been touted as a potential target for Jurgen Klopp to replace Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool FC sold Coutinho in a £142m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old scored 12 goals and made eight assists in 18 starts in the Champions League and the Premier League.
Coutinho played a vital role in helping Liverpool FC to finish in the Champions League spots last term after 13 goals and five assists.
Mahrez was a key part of the Leicester team that surprised world football with their Premier League title success in 2016.
Former Leicester midfielder Savage believes Mahrez would be a great addition to the Liverpool FC team following Coutinho’s exit.
“Who could replace Coutinho? Maybe Mahrez,” Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He’s not as good a player as Coutinho but put a cheeky offer in for him.”
Mahrez scored 19 goals and made 15 assists in their Premier League title-winning campaign under Claudio Ranieri.
Klopp’s side will take on Portuguese giants FC Porto in the Champions League last 16 next month.
The Algerian midfielder won’t be cup tied in the Champions League should the Reds decide to sign the attacker.
