Jose Mourinho sends ‘quality’ message to Man United supporters about Alexis Sanchez
The Manchester United manager believes Alexis Sanchez will establish himself as a key member of the Red Devils team
Jose Mourinho has described Alexis Sanchez as a “quality” addition to the Manchester United.
The Red Devils signed Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal on Monday evening that saw Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan complete a switch to the Gunners.
The Chile international was initially linked with a move to Premier League leaders Manchester City but Manchester United managed to put together a far superior offer.
Sanchez has been handed the number seven shirt and the South American will be tasked with adding more invention to the Manchester United team.
The 29-year-old scored 24 times in 38 games during his final full season at the north London club.
Sanchez will compete with Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard for a starting spot in the Red Devils starting line-up.
Mourinho is confident his first January signing will prove a vital member of the Manchester United team.
“He showed already the quality he has so we’ve got one of the best attacking players in the world,” Mourinho told Man United’s website.
“I think he’ll be very important for us because we want to have the best possible players.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils will take on La Liga side Sevilla in the Champions League last 16 next month.
The 20-time English champions haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
