Pat Nevin believes Alexis Sanchez will take the pressure off Romelu Lukaku.

The Chile international completed a switch to Manchester United from Arsenal on Monday evening as Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to the north London side in the same deal.

Sanchez will compete for a starting spot with Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford.

The Belgium international scored 10 times in his opening nine games in all competitions but struggled in October and November.

Lukaku has netted 16 times in 32 games in the current campaign to make a steady if unspectacular start to life at Manchester United.

However, former Chelsea winger Nevin believes Sanchez’s arrival could take the pressure of Lukaku, resulting in some better performances from the Belgian.

“You may get more out of Lukaku. The expectation is on him,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.

“Everything goes up to him too early. Maybe it won’t now [with Sanchez in the team].”

Sanchez won the FA Cup twice in three seasons at Arsenal before his switch to Manchester United.

The January signing made his first start in the Red Devils team on Friday night when the Manchester United forward made two assists in a 4-0 win at League Two side Yeovil Town.

The South American could make his Premier League debut for Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
