Guillem Balague replies when asked if Man United are re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo
Guillem Balague delivers the latest news on Man United's link to resigning Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid
Guillem Balague has said that any deal for Manchester United to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid is “complicated”.
The 32-year-old Portugal captain is reported to be unhappy at the Spanish club and could be seeking a move away from The Bernabeu in the summer.
Manchester United sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009 for a then world-record transfer fee, but the Red Devils have been linked with a move to re-sign the attacker on numerous occasions.
There have been suggestions that this could be Ronaldo’s final season at Real Madrid.
However, Spanish football expert Balague says Manchester United are likely to face intense competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the signature of Ronaldo if he is indeed up for sale at the end of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Balague said: “Ronaldo’s message is he wants to leave, and it appears Real Madrid will be willing to let him go.
“However, Real would love to see a fight between PSG and Man United, but the situation is more complicated than simply being interested in the player.
“To add to a net annual salary demand of around £44m, Real would also demand around £89m for Ronaldo, which is an almighty expense for a player who would arrive aged 33.
“Here’s United’s conundrum: the club cannot show a lack of interest if it is confirmed that Ronaldo is on the market. But the huge amount of money his transfer would demand cannot be justified.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United managed to close the gap to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table down to 12 points thanks to their victory over Stoke City on Monday night.
The Red Devils will now switch their attentions towards their trip to Burnley on Saturday as they look to keep the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s men at the top of the Premier League table.
