Gary Neville has heaped praise on Antonio Valencia following his brilliant form for Manchester United in recent seasons.

The 32-year-old has made the right-back role his own at Old Trafford in recent years and has been one of the Red Devils most consistent performers.

Valencia opened the scoring for Manchester United with a fine left-footed shot as the Red Devils sealed a 3-0 victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford on Monday night.

That win lifted the Red Devils to within 12 points of leaders Manchester City as they keep hope of trying to catch the Citizens in the race for the title.

Valencia has scored three goals in 19 Premier League games for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season.

And Manchester United legend Neville has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from the Ecuador international in recent seasons.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday night, Neville said: “You can talk about all of the rest of the players [but] Valencia has been Manchester United’s best outfield player for the last two or three seasons.

“Probably De Gea overall, but this lad has done absolutely brilliantly. It’s fantastic.

“He’s a great lad and great professional. He works so far and he’s become a really, really fantastic right-back.”

Valencia will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League last term but also won both the League Cup and Europa League.
