Tony Gale sends clear message to Man United fans about Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Tony Gale discusses Henrikh Mkhitaryan's struggles at Man United this season
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has not been trusted by Manchester United since his transfer to the club, according to Tony Gale.
The Armenia international was one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings at Old Trafford following the Portuguese coach’s appointment at the club back in May 2016.
Mkhitaryan has struggled to produce consistent performances for Manchester United since his move from Borussia Dortmund, despite showing flashes of brilliance on some occasions.
The 28-year-old had started this season strongly but has since fallen out of favour once again and has struggled to hold down a starting spot in Mourinho’s side in recent weeks.
Mkhitaryan has scored one goal and made five assists in 15 Premier League games so far this term but he has only started 11 times in the top flight so far.
Gale believes that Mkhitaryan has not yet been fully given a chance to prove himself at Old Trafford and suggested that he would be a top signing for any club this month.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Gale said: “He hasn’t been trusted to play in that midfield. They go for a more solid type of player in midfield.
“When I saw him at Dortmund in the Champions League, I thought he was excellent. He pressed the ball and then he was a top player when he had the ball as well. He was a top player who could score goals and make goals.
“But he’s not the type of player that Man United seemingly want in that midfield at the moment. I might suggest that he would be a good signing for anyone.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Stoke City at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The Red Devils are currently 15 points behind leaders Manchester City as they look to try and get closer to Pep Guardiola’s men.
