Jose Mourinho has revealed that Manchester United are already working on trying to secure David De Gea to a new long-term contract at Old Trafford and he could earn £250,000 a week, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils are planning to open talks with the goalkeeper and could almost double his wages in an attempt to get him to stay at Old Trafford.

The Spanish shot-stopper is widely regarded as one of the world’s top goalkeepers and he has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for the Red Devils this season.

De Gea currently has 18 months left on his contract at Old Trafford but the Red Devils have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months to 2020.

The 27-year-old has been earning huge amounts of praise for his displays this season and he is clearly seen as a vital part of the squad at Manchester United.

And Mourinho has revealed that the Red Devils are keen to tie the Spain international down to a new contract at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is quoted as saying in the same Daily Mirror article: “I don’t know if talks are already under way. I just trust the board and the work they do.

“I don’t negotiate players, I don’t discuss numbers and contracts. I just say what is obvious. Anyone of you would say the same – David is to keep.”

Manchester United are aiming to break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth last term.
