Jose Mourinho accused of ‘ruining’ 28-year-old at Man United
Paul Merson blames Jose Mourinho for Henrikh Mkhitaryan's poor form for Manchester United this season
Paul Merson has accused Jose Mourinho of “ruining” Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Manchester United since his move to Old Trafford.
The Armenia playmaker signed for the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2016 as one of Mourinho’s first signings since taking over at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old has fallen dramatically out of favour at Manchester United in recent weeks despite having started this season relatively strongly.
His future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent days, now that the January transfer window is back open again.
However, Merson feels that Mourinho is largely to blame for Mkhitaryan’s stuttering form for Manchester United in recent months.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Henrikh Mkhitaryan should be desperate to go to Arsenal as part of the Alexis Sanchez deal.
“Jose Mourinho has ruined him at Manchester United and now he has a chance to go to a club where he can literally do what he likes.
“Arsenal play attack, attack, attack and as a No.10 that’s a dream come true. You don’t even have to track back.”
Manchester United are now preparing for their away trip to Yeovil Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table but won both the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club.
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and keep the pressure up on Manchester City.
