Gary Neville explains why he thinks that Romelu Lukaku was a more deserving man of the match for Man United
Gary Neville has claimed that Romelu Lukaku was the man of the match for Manchester United against Stoke on Monday night – and not Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils put on an impressive display in front of their home fans as they wrapped up a 3-0 victory over the Potters at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Antonio Valencia, Anthony Martial and Lukaku.
Pogba was named as the official man of the match after having set up two of Manchester United’s three goals and having a big influence on the game.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville seems to think that it was Lukaku who was more deserving of the award than his team-mate.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game on Monday night, Neville said: “I actually thought that Lukaku was my man of the match.
“Pogba was fantastic, but Lukaku I thought was really good as well.”
Manchester United’s win left them in second place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind leaders Manchester City as they look to try and close the gap down to the leaders.
The Red Devils will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table under Mourinho last season.
