Manchester United are pondering a move to sign Brazil international Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, say reports
Manchester United are considering making a bid to sign Brazil international Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk this month, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Record is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on a move for the 24-year-old midfielder as Jose Mourinho looks to revamp his squad in the mid-season transfer window.
The same report says that Mourinho has identified Fred as a top transfer target because he wants to increase his tactical options in the centre of midfield.
The story says that Mourinho would consider Fred as a signing to help free up Paul Pogba’s role in the Manchester United midfield.
Brazil international Fred has scored two goals in 16 league games for Shakhtar Donetsk so far this season and has also featured six times in the Champions League.
Manchester United are inevitably being linked with a host of players this month but the Red Devils are yet to confirm any January signings.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is currently preparing his team for their Premier League clash against Stoke City at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and get as close to Manchester City as possible.
