The Guardian is reporting that the Red Devils are hoping to secure the signing of the Chile international this month as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad in the mid-season transfer window.
The same report, though, says that Manchester City have already agreed personal terms with Sanchez on a contract worth around £250,000 a week.
It is claimed in the same story that Manchester City submitted a £20m bid for Sanchez last week but Arsenal are yet to respond to their Premier League rivals.
The story also suggests that Manchester United are prepared to let Henrikh Mkhitaryan leave Old Trafford to join Arsenal as part of the deal, although his wages of around £200,000 a week could be a stumbling block.
Sanchez’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after he entered into the final few months of his contract at The Emirates.
Meanwhile, Sanchez could be in action for the Gunners when they return to Premier League affairs with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
