Arsene Wenger replies when asked about Man United interest in Alexis Sanchez
The Arsenal manager is refusing to shed any light on Manchester United's apparent interest in Alexis Sanchez in January transfer window
Arsene Wenger is remaining tight-lipped on talk of Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign Mesut Ozil in recent months but Manchester City were rumoured to be clear favourites to sign the Chile international from Arsenal.
Sanchez was close to a move to the Citizens in the summer transfer window but Arsenal were unable to sign Arsenal midfielder Thomas Lemar as a replacement for Sanchez on deadline day.
The 29-year-old has less than six months on his current deal with the north London club to throw up the possibility of a free transfer at the end of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Reports on Thursday suggested that Manchester United were prepared to launch a £25m deal to sign Sanchez from Arsenal in what would be a controversial transfer between two bitter rivals.
The former Barcelona forward came off the bench in the second half of Arsenal’s goalless draw with Chelsea in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge mid-week.
Wenger, though, refused to shed any light on Manchester United’s potential interest in the Chile international in the January transfer window.
“Look, honestly, I cannot tell you much more at the moment about this situation,” Wenger told his pre-match media conference.
“Nothing is really concrete. I don’t want to give you wrong information. Nothing is decided one way or another.”
