Manchester United have entered the race to sign French wonderkid Benoit Badiashile but face competition from some top European clubs, according to reports.

Footmercato, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils are monitoring the 16-year-old defender but the Monaco teenager is attracting interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Premier League leaders Manchester City are also monitoring the French starlet as the derby rivals prepare to go head-to-head over another player in the January transfer window.

According to the same story, Badiashile hasn’t signed a professional contract with AS Monaco despite his promising performances to put a number of Champions League clubs on red alert.

The same article adds that Manchester United attempted to sign the 16-year-old last summer but the Red Devils were knocked back as Monaco look to tie down Badiashile to the Ligue 1 side.

The Red Devils are sitting 12 points behind runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City after a one-sided title race in the 2017-18 campaign so far.

Manchester City missed out on the signing of Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window after Manchester United offered the Chile international a superior financial package.

The Red Devils have signed centre-halves Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof since taking over the reins from Louis van Gaal back in May 2016.
