Guillem Balague sends message to Man United fans about Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘fantasy’ move
The Spanish football expert pours cold water on talk of Cristiano Ronaldo securing return to Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo would relish a “fantasy” return to Manchester United, Guillem Balague says.
The Portugal international is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid following a difficult season in the Spanish top flight following a return of four goals in 16 games this term.
Manchester United have been regularly linked with a move to re-sign the 32-year-old forward despite Ronaldo being in the twilight of his career.
The Real Madrid number seven highlighted his undoubted quality despite his ageing legs in the Champions League last term with eight goals in the Spanish outfit’s last five games en route to winning the competition.
Ronaldo is los Blancos’ record goal-scorer following a staggering return of 422 goals in 418 appearances for Real Madrid since his £80m move to The Bernabeu from Manchester United in 2009.
However, La Liga expert Balague attempted to pour cold water on talk of Ronaldo securing a dream return to Manchester United in the summer.
“He very clearly has the fantasy of returning to Old Trafford but he has used that to his own benefit when there is negotiations over a new contract,” Balague told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“If you think about that really, do you want to fight against your old shadow?”
Manchester United signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Portuguese forward scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for Manchester United during a six-season spell at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup at Manchester United.
