Journalist: Man United could re-sign star sold by Louis van Gaal this summer
Manchester United could try and sign Jonny Evans from West Brom this summer, says Duncan Castles
Manchester United could make a move to try and sign Jonny Evans from West Brom in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Duncan Castles.
Evans was sold to West Bromwich Albion back in August 2015 after he was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by then manager Louis van Gaal.
The Northern Ireland international has earned praise for his solid performances since his move to The Hawthorns three years ago and has been linked with a number of top clubs of late, including Arsenal and Manchester City.
However, Castles believes that Manchester United will set out to try and bolster their defence in the summer and he reckons that Evans could well be a target for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “I think he’s a possibility [for Man United to sign Evans].
“Manchester United will strengthen at centre-back again in the summer, I’m very confident about that.
“And as we know, high-quality centre-backs are in short supply.
“Evans is a capable Premier League centre-back who can play the ball out from defence.
“So, you could see him coming into the picture if he’s still available in the summer.
“I don’t think by any stretch of the imagination he’ll be first-choice but it’s one to think about.”
Evans helped West Brom seal a famous 3-2 win over Liverpool FC at Anfield on Saturday night as they reached the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at Wembley on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to try and build on their FA Cup win over Yeovil Town on Friday night.
