Jose Mourinho confirms how many players Man United want to sign this year
Jose Mourinho reveals his transfer window plans for Manchester United both this month and in the summer
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United will try and sign a total of three players in 2018.
The Red Devils have been spending big since Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, with Manchester United having splashed the cash on securing the signatures of the likes of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.
Manchester United are inevitably being linked with a host of players this month now that the January transfer window is open.
However, the Portuguese coach has confirmed that the Red Devils will aim to try and bring in a total of three new players across both transfer windows in 2018.
Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Friday, Mourinho said: “If we have in our mind in the summer to improve the team in two or three positions, basically to improve the team in all the departments, if you have the chance to do something now it means that you don’t do in the summer.
“Another thing is we get one or two players just to improve a little bit the squad and then in the summer you are going to do it again.
“No. In the summer, we would probably have three transfers to do. If we do one now, in the summer it is three minus one.”
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they try to keep up the pressure on leaders Manchester City.
Mourinho enjoyed a successful debut campaign at Old Trafford last term despite the disappointment of their sixth placed finish in the top flight.
Manchester United won both the League Cup and Europa League to secure the Red Devils’ place in the Champions League for this season.
Mourinho’s men will take on Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
