The Brazil international has struggled to break into the PSG team in the current campaign given the increased competition for a starting spot.
Lucas has fallen behind world record signing Neymar and summer addition Kylian Mbappe in the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United during Sir Alex Ferguson’s latter seasons at Old Trafford.
However, the South American opted to move to PSG ahead of Manchester United, winning four Ligue 1 titles.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be keen to add more pace to his team in the January transfer window.
French football expert Johnson delivered an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of the Brazilian winger.
“What I’ve heard is Man United want Lucas,” Johnson told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“PSG want to sell Lucas. However, therein lies the rough. PSG want to sell Lucas [and] Man United want to loan him.
“Man United are interested and [are] one of a couple of clubs. Man United only want him on loan and not permanently.”
The Red Devils signed Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table, while Mourinho’s side will face La Liga side Sevilla in the Champions League last 16 next month.
