Insider claims Man United could sign 28-year-old from Premier League rival in January
Sky Sports News reporter talks up the potential transfer of Mesut Ozil from Arsenal to Manchester United
Manchester United have a good chance of signing Mesut Ozil from Arsenal in January, according to Sky Sports News reporter Aidan Magee.
The Germany international has been linked with a potential exit at the Emirates Stadium given his ongoing contract situation at the Emirates Stadium.
Ozil has less than six months remaining on his current deal to throw up the possibility of the attacking midfielder leaving for nothing next summer.
Alternatively, Arsenal could decide to cash in on their prized asset in January to ensure the north London side recoup some of their £42.5m outlay.
Ozil worked with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho during three seasons at Real Madrid, winning the La Liga title to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s impressive Barcelona side.
Sky Sports News reporter Magee suggested that Ozil’s proposed transfer to Manchester United could go through in January.
“I could see it happening,” Ozil told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“It has been muted for a long time.
“He is going to be a bargain for someone in the summer if he lets his contract run. It is his last big contract as well. Man United could have some money in the bank.”
Manchester United have lacked creativity in their first team when Paul Pogba has been sidelined due to injury or suspension this season.
The Red Devils will take on La Liga side Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 15 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
