Manchester United won’t be able to sign Paulo Dybala in the January transfer window, reporter James Horncastle says.

The Argentina international has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United this month to bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.

Dybala has endured a difficult spell at Juventus following reports of a fallout with manager Massimiliano Allegri.

The Juventus number 10 suffered a thigh strain at the weekend to leave the South American contemplating a spell on the sidelines.

However, as Chelsea proved with the signing of Ross Barkley, an injury doesn’t necessarily rule out a potential transfer.

Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba is friends with Dybala from their spell together at the Serie A champions.

However, Serie A expert Horncastle ruled out Dybala moving to Manchester United this month, despite stressing that Juventus will have their price.

“A transfer is not possible in January,” Horncastle told BBC Sport.

“There has been a lot of speculation about what’s behind the dip in form that Dybala has had for the last couple of months.”

Horncastle added: “Juve said to him in the summer that they wanted him to be their Neymar – they wanted him to be their star.

“We all know what Juventus are like. No one is indispensable to them. They will consider the right offer but Dybala is possibly the exception to that.

“Juve want him to become the face of the club for years to come. He is not only the best talent but also the most marketable player in Serie A.”

Dybala has scored 44 times in 84 games in Serie A during his three-season spell at Juventus.

The South American has netted five times in 23 games in the Champions League during his time at the Turin club.

Manchester United have also been linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.
